The 2023 Champion is in the 20th arrondissement: best baguette in Paris
The 2023 Champion is in the 20th arrondissement
Not all baguettes are created equal – but you knew that already – right?
Are you ready to save this or make a note?
The winning baker was awarded €4,000 and a year-long contract to supply baguettes to the French president at the Élysée Palace.
A reminder for when ordering a baguette, take care to note that there will actually be several different types of baguette for sale, some of which are tastier than others. The standard baguette is known as ‘baguette ordinaire’ and will be the cheapest, though you can instead opt for the ‘baguette tradition’. Baguette tradition is baked in accordance with a traditional recipe and tends to have a chewier crust and fluffier interior. This baguette tends to be 10-40 centimes more expensive than its cheaper counterpart but is more than worth the extra price tag in my opinion.
Top Ten of the Best Baguettes in Paris – 2023
1. Au Levain des Pyrénées, 44 rue des Pyrénées, 75020 – led by Boulanger Tharshan Selvarajah, produced the winning baguette in 2023. The bakery wins a small cash prize, and a contract to supply the Élysée palace (the president) for the coming year, and of course, huge bragging rights – which will inevitably lead to lines out the door. Au Levain des Pyrénées has performed well in this competition previously – they won 4th place in 2018.
2. Boulangerie Guyot, 28 rue Monge, 75005 – (they won 8th place in 2020).
3. Maison Lohezic, 143 rue de Courcelles, 75017 – (last year they won 4th place).
4. Tout Autour du Pain, 134 rue de Turenne, 75003
